Tube bending is one of the most recent services added to our capabilities at Reed Rubber. The process was developed to solve a problem that many of the leading HVAC and refrigeration manufacturers were having with tubing inside the products they were manufacturing. In particular, drainage tubes were getting kinked, restricting the flow of fluids, and ultimately damaging the whole unit.
Through a secondary vulcanization process, Reed Rubber was able to create permanently set bends within these thermoplastic rubber tubes. The result was a tube that fit into the product assembly more effectively and eliminated any risk of fluid back-up due to kinking. Since the process did not require expensive tooling, it also turned out to be a much more cost effective solution than injection molding a tube.
Applications
While HVAC and refrigeration tubing are some of the most common applications, any tube, profile, or TPR extrusion that requires a permanently set curve or angle may benefit form this process.
